Melaka is gearing up to introduce an innovative smart tourism system known as “Smart AI Tourism Melaka,” scheduled for launch in September 2025. This forward-looking initiative is part of an ambitious push to modernize and strengthen the state’s digital tourism infrastructure, offering an innovative way for visitors to experience Melaka’s cultural, historical, and natural attractions.

At the heart of this initiative is the integration of artificial intelligence (AI) to transform the traditional tourism model into an interactive, tech-driven ecosystem. By utilizing AI, the system will help tourists explore Melaka more intuitively, offering seamless navigation and curated suggestions based on location, preferences, and real-time data.

As part of this digital transformation, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed, formalizing a strategic partnership between Melaka ICT Holdings Sdn. Bhd. and three prominent telecommunications companies—Rohas Euco Industries Berhad, Maxis Broadband Sdn. Bhd., and U Mobile Sdn. Bhd. This collaboration is expected to ensure robust infrastructure support and connectivity for the AI-powered tourism initiative.

Breaking away from traditional signboards and printed guides, the Smart AI Tourism Melaka system offers dynamic, interactive features that enable real-time, two-way engagement with visitors. Tourists will be able to scan QR codes located at key attractions, which will instantly provide multilingual translations and detailed information about the site. This dynamic content delivery model is tailored to meet the needs of a diverse international audience, enhancing accessibility and inclusivity.

In addition to providing instant translations and attraction highlights, the smart system will link visitors to a rich array of multimedia content through Melaka’s official tourism portal. This will include virtual tours, event updates, recommended itineraries, and augmented reality features, creating a fully immersive and tech-enhanced travel experience.

The state has also made significant strides in digital infrastructure to support the initiative. Melaka now boasts an impressive 99.97% 4G network coverage and 89.7% 5G coverage across populated areas. With average mobile broadband speeds reaching 121 Mbps—well above the national benchmark of 100 Mbps—the region is positioned to offer a seamless digital experience to both domestic and international travelers.
