Tourism Authority of Thailand Strengthens Thailand’s Position as a Top Film Tourism Destination with Jurassic World: Rebirth, Revealing Stunning Locations to International Film Buffs

The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) took a big step to close the gap between film and tourism with its partnership with Universal Pictures Home Entertainment for the global media launch of Jurassic World: Rebirth. Unveiled on July 2, 2025, the newest film in the Jurassic World series revealed breathtaking film locations in Thailand, such as the idyllic provinces of Krabi, Phang-Nga, and Trang. This partnership is another achievement in TAT’s efforts to utilize international entertainment as a platform to market Thailand as a first-class travel destination.
A Cinematic Journey Across Thailand’s Iconic Landscapes
From July 30 to August 3, 2025, a select group of 30 international media representatives, along with the director of Jurassic World: Rebirth Gareth Edwards and the film’s stars Jonathan Bailey, Luna Blaise, David Iacono, and Audriana Miranda, traveled to Thailand to immerse themselves in the breathtaking landscapes where the blockbuster was filmed. The event kicked off with a Welcome Dinner at Phuket’s renowned Trisara Resort, setting the stage for an unforgettable journey.
The global press event allowed media representatives to visit key filming locations under the themes of “Sea, Land, and Air,” which directly corresponded to major scenes in the film. Highlights included rappelling down the cliffs at Railay Beach, exploring coastal trails, and capturing original content in these spectacular settings. Participants were not just spectators but active creators, producing unique media content that would further amplify Thailand’s allure as a tourist destination.
The event underlined Thailand’s growing status as a top filming location, combining logistical ease, diverse natural scenery, and professional production support. The filming of Jurassic World: Rebirth alone injected over 400 million Baht into the local economy and created more than 2,200 jobs across the three southern provinces. This exposure has played a crucial role in elevating the global profile of these areas.
“Thailand continues to be a sought-after destination for international productions—not just for our breathtaking cliffs, jungles, and coastlines, but because we offer a complete professional experience,” said Ms. Thapanee Kiatphaibool, TAT Governor. “With world-class crews, modern studios, streamlined permits, and genuine Thai hospitality, we’re proud to support stories that inspire real-world travel. Our collaboration with Universal Pictures Home Entertainment reflects how film and tourism can grow together, creating lasting value for our destinations and communities.”
Boosting Thailand’s Film Tourism Strategy
TAT’s collaboration with Jurassic World: Rebirth is a key part of its broader Location Thailand project. This initiative aims to capitalize on the rising trend of “set-jetting”—where film enthusiasts travel to locations featured in their favorite movies. By promoting Thailand as a backdrop for high-profile productions, TAT is driving international interest and inspiring future tourists to explore the country’s remarkable landscapes.
The success of this event reflects the growing global influence of Thailand’s film tourism strategy, which includes cash rebate incentives, production facilitation, and extensive global promotion. TAT’s efforts are already yielding results. According to the Thailand Film Office, in the first half of 2025, Thailand hosted 279 international productions, generating a remarkable 2.8 billion Baht in economic value. The United States, South Korea, and France were the largest contributors to production spending, while India, South Korea, Japan, and China led in production volume.
Expanding Thailand’s Film Industry Presence
Beyond Jurassic World: Rebirth, Thailand is attracting an ever-increasing number of international productions. The country recently hosted Alien: Earth, set to premiere on Disney+ Hotstar in August 2025. With a production budget exceeding 2.8 billion Baht, this marks the largest foreign series investment in Thailand in over three decades. Filmed across seven provinces over almost two years, Alien: Earth employed over 24,000 Thai crew members, highlighting Thailand’s capacity to support large-scale international projects.
Stephanie Lutjens, Senior Vice President of Global Marketing at Universal Pictures Home Entertainment, shared her appreciation during the Welcome Dinner: “It’s important to note that tonight’s spectacular activities would not be possible without the generous support of Amazing Thailand and the outstanding team at the Tourism Authority of Thailand. Their unwavering commitment to promoting Thailand’s tourism and preserving its natural beauty is truly inspiring. We are extremely grateful for their incredible partnership.”
Other notable international productions that have cemented Thailand’s reputation as a premier filming destination include The White Lotus Season 3 and Fast & Furious 9. These projects, combined with the ongoing Jurassic World franchise collaboration, underscore Thailand’s growing prominence in the global film industry.
TAT’s continued collaboration with Universal Pictures on Jurassic World: Rebirth and its greater film tourism strategy are turning Thailand into a hub of film and travel. By tapping the potential of movie storytelling, TAT is producing real travel experiences that enable tourists to enter the movies’ scenes firsthand. The immersive experiences, international media coverage, and exposure from high-profile movie production keep raising the profile of Thailand as a destination to visit. As TAT continues to implement these strategies, the nation is well-positioned to become an even more desirable destination for film makers and tourists.
