The Peninsula Hong Kong Unveils 2025 “Art in Resonance” Exhibition, Backing Artists’ Growth Since 2019

The Peninsula Hong Kong has unveiled its 2025 “Art in Resonance” programme, continuing its dedication to supporting emerging and mid-career artists since its inception in 2019. The programme will launch during Hong Kong Art Week, featuring commissioned works from local artists Phoebe Hui and Chris Cheung (known as h0nh1m), alongside Shanghai-based Lin Fanglu. This initiative is presented in partnership with the Victoria and Albert Museum (V&A).
Running from late March through May 2025, these groundbreaking artworks will transform The Peninsula Hong Kong’s public spaces, inviting both hotel guests and art lovers to experience contemporary art at the landmark hotel.
“This exhibition represents a significant milestone in our ongoing commitment to nurturing artistic creativity and cultural exchange,” said Gareth Roberts, Executive Director and Chief Operating Officer of The Peninsula’s parent company, The Hongkong and Shanghai Hotels, Limited. “We are particularly excited to partner with the V&A to bring this work, and future artworks to the museum’s display. Our collaboration will cultivate a broader audience for these superbly talented artists.”
A Captivating, Immersive Experience
Upon arrival, guests will encounter Lunar Rainbow, a striking 56-square-metre installation by multimedia artist Phoebe Hui. Located on the hotel’s façade, this celestial artwork features fragmented images of the moon laser-printed onto 49 plates of aluminum. The piece traces the evolution of lunar imagery, from 17th-century moon drawings to contemporary open-source archives, blending historical and modern elements. The installation’s custom lighting evokes the moonbow, a rare natural phenomenon, and reflects themes of possibility and new perspectives. As Hui’s largest work to date, Lunar Rainbow honours the moon as a symbol of resilience and hope, inviting viewers to discover a surprising visual effect when the moon’s imagery aligns from a specific angle, sparking a sense of curiosity and awe.
Inside The Lobby, textile artist Lin Fanglu presents She’s Bestowed Love, a monumental work curated by Dr. Xiaoxin Li, V&A Curator of the Asia Department. The installation features vibrant red sculptural forms celebrating feminine strength and power. Smaller pieces orbit the central forms, symbolizing the multifaceted experiences of a woman’s journey. Drawing inspiration from ancient textile traditions in Yunnan’s Bai minority culture, and echoing the nurturing spirit of Greek goddess Gaia, Lin’s piece creates a bridge between cultural heritage and contemporary expression. After its showcase at The Peninsula Hong Kong, the installation will travel to the V&A South Kensington in London, where it will headline the “Dimensions: Chinese Contemporary Studio Crafts” exhibition starting in Autumn 2025.
“This collaboration represents the intersection of tradition and innovation, which perfectly embodies the V&A’s mission,” said Dr Melissa Buron, Director of Collections and Chief Curator of the V&A. “By partnering with The Peninsula, we are creating meaningful dialogues between contemporary artistic expression and cultural heritage — sharing powerful creative voices with audiences worldwide.”
At The Verandah, new media artist Chris Cheung (h0nh1m) unveils The Flow Pavilion, an immersive installation in collaboration with Tai Ping. This one-way mirror structure, designed as a modern tea house, is placed within a Zen Garden. Visitors are invited to embark on a meditative journey of self-connection and tranquility, entering the “Flow State.” A kinetic sphere glides across an exquisite hand-tufted silk carpet, creating patterns reminiscent of a contemporary Zen Garden. The motion is powered by the artist’s recorded brainwave patterns during meditation, fusing ancient mindfulness practices with modern technology.
A Long-standing Commitment to Contemporary Arts
The Peninsula has long been dedicated to showcasing the rich cultural offerings of its destination cities by engaging guests with art through a variety of channels. The hotel group has hosted artist residencies, curated exhibitions, and organized talks, symposia, studio visits, and workshops with local artists whose works reflect the spirit of their home cities.
The artworks featured in this year’s Art in Resonance programme will remain on display at The Peninsula Hong Kong through May 2025, before traveling to other Peninsula properties, where they will be joined by new installations from local and international artists.
