Planeterra announces $50k funding for responsible tourism initiatives

Planeterra – a non-profit organisation set up by G Adventures – has announced a new round of grants from its Global Community Tourism Fund, totalling $50,000.
Since its launch in 2022, the programme has awarded 40 grants across 23 countries, helping local communities develop and enhance sustainable tourism experiences that create social, economic and environmental benefits.
The latest round of grants has been made possible by contributions from Evaneos – a tailor-made trips specialist – and other donors.
The fund will provide individual grants of up to $3,500 along with mentorship and capacity-building support.
Through the Global Community Tourism Fund, community-led organisations such as Panauti Bike Station in Nepal (pictured) have expanded opportunities for youth and women; Lomas del Paraíso in Peru has engaged more community members in ecotourism activities; and Tours and Arts Solutions in Ghana has promoted the country’s rich culinary heritage.
Kelly Galaski, senior director of operations & head of impact at Planeterra, said: “At Planeterra, we believe tourism creates lasting change when communities lead the way.
“Through the Global Community Tourism Fund, we are reaching more communities and non-profit organisations looking to tourism to achieve their goals.
“By providing funding, mentorship and resources, we help local leaders strengthen their initiatives and increase their impact.
“This round of funding is another step toward a more inclusive and equitable tourism industry.”
Eligible community organisations are now encouraged to apply this month for a chance to receive funding and mentorship to expand their tourism initiatives.
Planeterra is also inviting travel companies, tourism organisations, government agencies and destination management organisations to invest in community-led tourism worldwide.
