With these additions, Vietjet will operate 138 weekly flights between Vietnam and Japan, connecting five key Japanese cities: Tokyo, Osaka, Nagoya, Fukuoka, and Hiroshima.

Singapore is also seeing increased connectivity with Vietnam via Vietjet. On May 30, the airline will debut a new route between Singapore and Phu Quoc, operating four round trips per week. This will be Vietjet’s fourth route linking Singapore with Vietnam, complementing its existing services to Ho Chi Minh City, Hanoi, and Da Nang.

Vietnam’s aviation market continues upward trend despite challenges

According to the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam, the national aviation market is expected to grow by approximately 8% in 2025. However, airlines continue to face several hurdles. A notable issue is the ongoing aircraft shortage due to global engine recalls—particularly Pratt & Whitney engine defects affecting the Airbus A321 fleet. Rising fuel prices, exacerbated by global conflicts, are also increasing operational costs.

To address capacity shortfalls, Vietnamese carriers have been leasing and acquiring additional aircraft. As of now, the country’s total commercial fleet has surpassed 200 aircraft, marking a net increase of around 10 planes compared to the previous year.
