Iberia Unveils Exciting Opportunities at AULA Fair at IFEMA Madrid, Inspiring Future Aviation Leaders and Strengthening Its Industry Authority

Iberia is making its debut at the AULA fair, the international student and education fair, taking place at IFEMA Madrid from March 26 to 30. The airline aims to connect with young students and strengthen its position as a leading employer brand, fostering early interest in the aviation industry amidst the rising demand for jobs in this sector.
At the Iberia stand in Hall 5, secondary school students will have the opportunity to explore the everyday roles of pilots, cabin crew, engineers, and aircraft maintenance technicians at an airline like Iberia. In addition to gaining insight into the qualifications required for these careers, students will enjoy an immersive experience using Apple Pro Vision glasses. This innovative technology will allow them to virtually disassemble an aircraft engine or step into the shoes of a pilot or cabin crew member, complete with the opportunity to try on their uniforms.
María Bello, Iberia’s Director of People and Diversity, says: “With this initiative, we want to get closer to the youngest students and awaken in them a vocation for professions that are perhaps, at first, unknown to them due to a lack of nearby references and attract this future talent to the aeronautical sector.
Participating in the AULA fair is crucial for Iberia to connect with younger audiences, raise awareness of aviation careers, and establish itself as a leading employer brand in the sector. Our stand will offer an immersive experience through various activities, allowing students to explore the daily lives of our pilots, cabin crew, engineers, and aircraft maintenance technicians. They’ll also receive guidance on the academic requirements for pursuing these professions. Additionally, professionals from each of these fields will be available to share their career journeys and answer any questions from students.
Iberia’s participation in AULA is just one of many initiatives aimed at sparking early interest in the aviation sector. Other programs include:
Quiero Ser: Launched in 2017 as part of Iberia’s Diversity and Inclusion Plan, this initiative promotes female talent in male-dominated aviation roles. It targets senior secondary school students, giving them firsthand insights into careers as pilots, aircraft maintenance technicians, and engineers. The program includes visits to CAE flight simulators and Iberia’s maintenance facilities in La Muñoza.
I Want to Be a Pilot: In this program, 14 Iberia pilots visit schools to share their experiences and answer students’ questions about careers in aviation. It offers a realistic and personal look at the profession, encouraging students to see aeronautics as an attractive and viable career path.
Professional Training Programme: Since 2018, more than 400 students have completed internships at Iberia Maintenance, with nearly 250 being hired by the airline. These internships, ranging from three to nine months, provide valuable hands-on experience at Iberia’s maintenance facilities in La Muñoza.
Cadet Program: Each year, Iberia partners with the prestigious FTEJerez (Flight Training Europe) to offer cadet programs for aspiring pilots. Iberia helps finance their training, and upon completion, the airline supports cadets in entering the workforce. Iberia also commits to assisting cadets in repaying the financial contribution made to their education.
Iberia Chair in Aeronautical Research: Iberia has established a chair at the School of Aeronautical and Space Engineering at the Polytechnic University of Madrid (UPM). This initiative supports academic and research activities, including PhD programs focused on composite materials, aerodynamics, and heavy maintenance structures. Iberia also signed an agreement with UPM to create the ‘Iberia Chair in Aeronautical Research’ at the School of Aeronautical and Space Engineering.
Iberia as an Employer Brand: Iberia continually strives to strengthen its employer brand to become a top choice for careers in the aeronautical industry. The airline focuses on attracting diverse, skilled talent for key roles such as pilots, cabin crew, engineers, aircraft maintenance technicians, and digital transformation professionals. Iberia also aims to foster a great work environment by promoting a sense of belonging and pride among employees, further solidifying its reputation as a fantastic place to work.
