Emirates Ups Its Luxury Game With Newly Retrofitted Aircraft Bringing Premium Economy To Six Continents And Enhanced Business Class Options

Dubai’s flagship carrier Emirates is significantly expanding the availability of its premium economy cabin across its network, with upgraded Boeing 777 aircraft set to serve additional high-demand routes in coming months.
The airline is currently retrofitting 120 of its Boeing 777s with a new four-class configuration that introduces premium economy seating alongside refreshed business class cabins. This enhancement comes as part of Emirates’ $2 billion fleet modernization program announced in 2022.
European Expansion
Beginning June 2024, travelers on Emirates’ routes from Dubai to Lisbon and Dublin will experience the new premium economy product. The Lisbon route will feature the upgraded aircraft starting June 1, followed by Dublin on June 25. This follows the successful introduction of premium economy on flights to London Stansted, which began operating with the retrofitted 777s earlier this month.
Global Deployment
Beyond Europe, Emirates will deploy the enhanced aircraft on several intercontinental routes including:
- Asian destinations: Hong Kong and Colombo
- Indian subcontinent: Kolkata
- African routes: Johannesburg and Cape Town
- Island getaway: Malé in the Maldives
Strategic Growth
An Emirates spokesperson noted: “By September, we expect to offer premium economy service to 44 global destinations as we complete the retrofit program across our 777 and A380 fleets. This expansion responds to growing passenger demand for more cabin choice and comfort options.”
The premium economy seats feature up to 40 inches of pitch, adjustable headrests, and a 13.3-inch HD screen. Business class passengers will enjoy newly designed seats with enhanced privacy features.
With this rollout, Emirates strengthens its competitive position against other global carriers that have offered premium economy for years, while maintaining its signature luxury service across all cabin classes. The move is particularly strategic as the airline prepares for increased travel demand during the summer peak season.
