Salzburg In Austria Launches Affordable Guest Mobility Ticket To Drive Sustainable Travel

Salzburg is aiming to transform the visitor experience by launching a game-changing public transport initiative for travelers staying overnight in the city.

Beginning May 1, all overnight guests in Salzburg will receive access to the new Guest Mobility Ticket, an eco-friendly travel pass designed to make getting around easier and greener. The ticket will cost just €0.50 per night, offering a budget-friendly way to explore the historic Austrian destination.

This pass offers complimentary travel on all forms of public transportation across the Salzburg region—including city and regional buses, S-Bahn trains, long-distance and regional rail services, and even micro-mobility options—throughout a guest’s entire stay.

By introducing the Guest Mobility Ticket, Salzburg is redefining eco-conscious travel for visitors, providing genuine added value while promoting a more sustainable way to explore the region.

Guests will receive the Guest Mobility Ticket upon check-in, as it’s automatically linked to the accommodation’s registration system. The ticket is delivered digitally—either as a PDF or in a wallet-friendly format—so there’s no need to download any separate apps. For lodgings that don’t use hotel management software, a dedicated online portal tied to the registration system ensures seamless access.

The initiative is funded by a modest administrative fee of €0.50 per night during its introductory phase. Starting November 1, 2027, this fee will rise to €1.10 per night. Collected as part of the local overnight tax, all proceeds will be exclusively reinvested into enhancing Salzburg’s public transportation infrastructure.

That’s roughly equal to the carbon-capturing power of 1.3 million trees or removing the emissions from more than 110 million kilometers of car travel. Beyond lowering pollution levels, this initiative enhances air quality and overall well-being for both the local community and travelers alike.
