Singapore’s Changi Airport has been named the Overall Winner at the Routes Asia 2025 Awards, also securing first place in the Over 20 Million Passengers category.

The event, hosted in Perth, Australia, honors excellence in airport and destination marketing across the Asia-Pacific region. Alongside Changi, four other winners were recognized: Cairns Airport, Adelaide Airport, the Philippine Department of Tourism, and Cebu Pacific.

“We are truly grateful to our airline partners for their close collaboration and partnership,” Changi Airport’s Vice President, Market Development Peh Ke-Wei said. “Together, we have made significant strides in taking Changi Airport’s passenger traffic to new heights and strategically expanding its global connectivity to provide travelers with more options.

Changi’s performance in 2024 was a standout, with the airport handling 67.7 million passengers — a 15% increase from the previous year. Airfreight volumes also grew by 15%. The airport added 10 new carriers, including Air Canada, Air Japan, and Peach, and launched 20 new routes to destinations such as Brussels, London Gatwick, and Vancouver.

Cairns Airport won in the Under 5 Million Passengers category. Positioned in a heavily aviation-reliant region of Australia, the airport has taken a focused, geographic approach to route development. In 2024, it welcomed new international routes including China Eastern’s Lunar New Year flights, AirAsia Indonesia’s entry into the market, Fiji Airways’ Nadi service, and Cathay Pacific’s return.

In the 5 to 20 Million Passengers category, Adelaide Airport came out on top after reaching a new passenger record in 2024. With over 8.5 million travelers, the airport surpassed pre-pandemic levels with a 10% year-on-year rise. Key developments included the reinstatement of Emirates’ daily service, the return of China Southern Airlines, Jetstar’s launch of a Whitsunday Coast route, and QantasLink’s upgrade to larger Q400 aircraft for regional routes.

The Philippine Department of Tourism was honored in the Destination category for its efforts to boost air connectivity to the country. Its support through strategic marketing and partnerships, especially the ‘Love the Philippines’ campaign, has helped drive new services to Cebu, Clark, and Davao. Notable international wins included Air France’s launch of a Paris-Manila route and Vietnam Airlines’ new service from Hanoi to Manila.

Cebu Pacific received the Airline award after a year of record expansion. The budget carrier launched 31 new routes in 2024 — 19 domestic and 12 international — and made history with the largest aircraft purchase in Philippine aviation, ordering 152 Airbus aircraft in a $24 billion deal.

Airports and destinations were evaluated by a panel of airline judges, while the airline award was determined by editorial experts.
