Thailand, India, and China have emerged as key players at the 2025 PATA Gold Awards, showcasing their pioneering efforts in transforming tourism marketing and sustainability. These nations have earned recognition for their innovative campaigns and initiatives that not only drive growth in the tourism industry but also promote responsible practices that ensure long-term sustainability. Through groundbreaking projects, they are setting new standards for how tourism can thrive while preserving cultural heritage and supporting environmental stewardship.
The Pacific Asia Travel Association (PATA) has announced the winners of the highly regarded 2025 PATA Gold Awards, recognizing outstanding contributions across the Asia Pacific travel and tourism industry. This year, 20 winners were selected in two broad categories—Marketing, and Sustainability and Social Responsibility—highlighting the exceptional work and impact of both organizations and individuals who have led groundbreaking initiatives.
The 2025 PATA Gold Awards were carefully evaluated from more than 100 entries, submitted by 45 different travel and tourism organizations and individuals. The winners exemplify innovation, creativity, and meaningful action in their respective fields, contributing to the growth, sustainability, and global presence of the Asia Pacific tourism sector.
Among the distinguished awardees, the Macao Government Tourism Office (MGTO) received the Grand Title Award in the Marketing category for its remarkable campaign, Experience Macao Limited Edition. This interactive, digital experience invited users to virtually explore Macao, China, competing for exclusive, limited-edition travel experiences. The campaign creatively integrated various marketing strategies, ranging from CGI teasers and K-pop collaborations to influencer activations and targeted digital advertising, to engage a global audience. The success of the campaign was evident, as it generated an astounding 5.16 billion in media exposure and helped increase real-world visitation to Macao.
In the Sustainability and Social Responsibility category, the Designated Areas for Sustainable Tourism Administration (DASTA), a public organization, was awarded the Grand Title for its project Sustainable Cultural Heritage Preservation of the Ban Na Ton Chan Homestay Community Enterprise. This initiative highlights the importance of preserving cultural heritage through sustainable tourism practices. The homestay experience, which offers visitors immersive exposure to the local lifestyle, traditional crafts, and folk arts, not only promotes cultural exchange but also provides a meaningful income source for the community. Through effective use of online platforms, the Ban Na Ton Chan Homestay has seen a significant rise in visitors and revenue, ensuring the long-term preservation of its cultural heritage.
The PATA Gold Awards honor outstanding campaigns and initiatives that break new ground in creativity and sustainability, driving the evolution of tourism in a way that fosters industry growth while promoting responsible practices. The two Grand Title winners—MGTO and DASTA—are exemplary models of this vision. Their achievements reflect the forward-thinking mindset and commitment to excellence within the Asia Pacific tourism industry.
The 2025 PATA Gold Awards ceremony will take place during the PATA Travel Mart, set for August 27 at the Queen Sirikit National Convention Center in Bangkok, Thailand. All 20 winners will be celebrated at this prestigious event, which will also feature a special video showcasing the award-winning campaigns and initiatives. These winners will also be highlighted in the 2025 PATA Gold Awards booklet, to be published in August, further acknowledging their outstanding contributions to the industry.
The marketing campaign, Experience Macao Limited Edition, received the Grand Title Award due to its innovative digital approach. This campaign incorporated a variety of creative elements, including CGI teasers and a music video featuring popular K-pop star Miyeon. The integration of KOL (key opinion leader) collaborations, PR campaigns, influencer activations, and a dedicated KLOOK landing page all contributed to its success. Through these efforts, the campaign was able to significantly raise awareness of Macao as a destination, creating excitement among travelers and encouraging visits to the region. With 5.16 billion in media exposure, the campaign effectively captured the attention of a global audience, driving both online engagement and real-world visits.
In the realm of sustainability, DASTA’s project centered around safeguarding the Ban Na Ton Chan Homestay Community Enterprise. This project embodies DASTA’s vision of creating sustainable development within local communities. The homestay offers guests the chance to experience the rich culture and traditions of the area, from local performances and traditional attire to handcrafted goods made by local artisans. By capitalizing on digital marketing and online platforms, DASTA has not only increased tourism to the area but also helped elevate the local economy by generating significant revenue. The initiative is a testament to the power of tourism in supporting cultural preservation while driving economic growth in local communities.
This year’s PATA Gold Awards also saw other innovative entries and campaigns, each contributing to the continuous growth and development of Asia Pacific’s tourism sector.
